Have you considered growing some herbs inside? We also have problems with a short growing season, not to mention that here in Colorado (except for this year) it tends to be quite dry and the sun about bakes everything in August. I got some window boxes and use them inside and out for herbs that I will only use in smaller amounts. Freowyn

I was wondering if any of you can supply me with a list of herbs that can be grown in Ontario. I know that some Herbs cannot grow in the canadian climate and that the soil is sometimes not right for ceritan herbs. I am still working on my herb garden and a list of herbs I can grow here in Ontario would be much appreciated. Oh, to be more exact. it's Burlington, Ontario. Thank you very much for your help.

I have a few herbs inside. The herbs I have outside are all perenials. I have a sun room where I think I am going to put a lil indoor garden. I have some herbs in my room. They are also perenials.
Yeah, that short growing season can be a problem. I can't believe Autum is coming, it just seems so soon to me. It got pretty hot here in Burlington, Ontario this summer. There was barely any rain too. We are getting rain now though!
I can imagine Colorado gets pretty hot.
I don't have very big windows and not much light gets into m house sometimes. I think the sun room is a better chose? don't you?

I just finished this and went back for your addy - it wasn't there! (aargh) I hope you can receive rich format -- I hope the list lets this through with the new rule....(I hope I recover from styrofoam squeaking trauma..)
It would be a *very good* idea if you were to maximize this -- cut and paste messes up emails quite badly, as I'm sure you know....
Herbs in Ontario
How to grow and use 50 herbs
Charlotte Erichsen-Brown
Breezy Creeks Press c1975
A small gem of a book for the herb enthusiast. Only 35 pages, it lists in alphabetical order, by common name, 50 herbs (perennials, annual and biennial) that can be successfully grown in Ontario.
There are no illustrations which is a drawback but the book is jampacked with enough information to successfully create your own herb garden.
A recipe for potpourri, "a cherished Ontario recipe" and fragrant tussie mussies complete this enchanting book.
(If you can't find it at Smith's, etc., try the Ottawa Women's Bookstore, Avalon's, Whispers - wait.....that's a bar!! ROFL!! I mean Chapters, the Hungry Eye, and the Singing Pebble... They WILL order it for you -- but I can't remember if they ship. (It's been awhile...) They will definitely direct you to someone who DOES tho. Of course, if that fails, there's always Amazon.com....

While this outfit sells indigenous and rare seeds.
The Algonquin Tea Company is honoured to offer you the indigenous and naturalized plants of the Southern Algonquin Bioregion. We offer these wildcrafted plants as both viable seed and harvested medicine to aid both the ancient wisdom of herbal medicine and to promote and preserve the plants themselves.
Rare herbs are organically grown.
I'm sure some of this can help you, but if you want more info, try entering "growing herbs in ontario canada" in the AltaVista search engine. [without the quotations]
Gonna try "indigenous" now...brb....WOW ----->> Almost 5 million entries! When I put quotation marks around the exact words I want searched, it comes back NADA.....sorry. (We Ontarians aren't too popular with search engines, I find...lol)
Well, I hope some of this helps!! ((please let this through.....please......))
