Someone passed this to me I guess because I said I was ill. I'm OK now but
as this just came in and is interesting (especially for all those late
shoppers), I thought I'd pass it along... The original person who wrote it
has not been passed on tho and I know it wasn't written by the friend who
send it (she said as much) so wherever the credit is due, it does not
belong with me.
MM, this is a very fitting article for this busy time of year...and just those
stressful times in general (spoken like a true college student, I think! *G*)
It is taken from 1999's Llewellyn's Magickal Almanac.
Increasing our Energies with Herbs
By Carly Wall, C.A.
Having good, strong physical energy is important if you are performing
rituals
and magical rites, but sometimes life is just to stressful to keep our
energy levels up. We become depressed, or we experience headaches, backaches,
digestion problems, and sleep problems. If the stress is unrelenting,
negative
energies leach out the positive and our balance is lost. That's when the
physical illness can strike!
How can we reverse the process? Well, when we feel that change, social
obligations, dissapointments, or responsibilites are getting us down, we can
use herbal tonics to boost us up. The healing energies of the plants, as
well
as the supporting vibrations that plants lend to us can do the trick. Here
are
some herbs you can try (remember to drink no more than 3 cups of herbal tea
per day).
Borage: called the herb of gladness by the Welsh, borage restores vitality
and
makes one calm. Dry the leaves and flowers. Use 1 teaspoon in 1 cup of
boiling
water. Cover and steep 10 minutes, strain and drink.
Chamomile: Egyptians believed chamomile prevented aging because of its
ability
to ease stress. Also good for easing digestion. For tea, use 2 teaspoons
dried
or 1 tablespoon fresh to 1 cup of boiling water.
Clover: High in antioxidants, clover has been traditionally used as a spring
tonic in North America. A mild sedative, it is a detoxifier; re-building and
cleansing. Use 2 teaspoons of dried chopped flowers or 1 tablespoon fresh in
one cup water.
Lavender: Lavender is an all-around healing, tonic, sedative herb. Mentally
relaxes and raises the spirits. Use 1 teaspoon dried or 3 teaspoons fresh
leaves and flower buds in 1 cup boiling water.
Valerian: Although it isn't pleasant tasting or smelling, valerian is
wonderfully renewing and gives courage and energy. Take this at bedtime to
get
lots of sleep and wake up full of zip! Mix this with a sweet tea herb to get
it down. Make a tea by pouring 1 pint of boiling water over 1 teaspoon of
powdered root. Cover, steep 15 minutes, strain. Place 2 teabags of a sweet
herb in while steeping. Add honey too. Drink only 1 cup per day.
